The optimal care of acne, particularly from the primary care perspective, is uncertain. A group of dermatologists from across the world met in Paris in 2001 to discuss all aspects of the management of acne, with the exception of very difficult to treat cases. The aim was to gain a consensus on how acne should be managed optimally in primary care. The consensus guidelines have now been published [1]. A group of colleagues from within the United Kingdom met in October 2002 and June 2003 to discuss a version of the consensus recommendations for use in the United Kingdom.
The participants at this meeting came together to discuss the optimal management of patients with acne and to gain a consensus on the applicability of the proposed treatment guidelines to doctors in the United Kingdom.
